London-born and Ghanaian entrepreneur, Amma Mensah is the founder of Reign, the world’s first African luxury rum brand.
In 2020, after more than a decade building businesses and economic empowerment initiatives in the UK, Amma returned to Ghana with a vision to build something lasting from the continent itself.
What she found was a vast post-colonial agricultural estate in the heartlands of the Asante Kingdom. At odds with the desire to reclaim African raw materials for the benefit of African people, Amma set about the complex journey of transforming it into the birthplace of African owned high value products. with the ambition to reshape how African heritage, value and creativity are experienced around the world.
Reign’s 2023 launch is very much just the beginning.
Today, Amma leads Reign from soil to sip. From the cultivation of organic sugarcane on the ReignForest Estate to the creation of multi-award-winning rums now enjoyed across Africa, Europe, and beyond.
ROOTED IN HERITAGE
Amma stands on the shoulders of generations of Ghanaian women farmers before her. “I’m the 1st girl in my family to attend university, standing on the shoulders of Warrior Queens whose brilliance paved the way for my aspirations. I was raised knowing that entrepreneurship, community empowerment & sustainability are very much African values. The values on which Reign is built.”
Reign is a luxury spirit built not only to celebrate Africa’s richness, but to create ownership, opportunity, and visibility around African creativity on a global stage.
